A week of Easter festivities sponsored by the Hawthorne Commercial Club kicked off April 3, 1939 with twice daily appearances of Big Bunny at the festival center at 38th and Hawthorne. Crystal Market and Grocery at 5012-18 Hawthorne won the first place in the window decoration competition and Valencia Grocery at 1413 Hawthorne was second. On Saturday, Mayor Carson crowned the festival queen, there was a pet and floral parade and a Lilliputian circus.
